Brother-in-law, Kazuo, Seiji, my sister Shigeko Hayashi, Satoshi Oguro, grandson’s Kiichi, Kisei Iesato.

Even though I chose April in the dry season, I was stranded by the squall that started in the evening every day. Still, Phu Quoc's journey that takes a momentary interval. I go out with my camera today to find the best shots I can only meet on rainy days. The journey to make memories starts with Vietnam Airlines.

It's far from the "paradise" that everyone longs for. A simple fishing village where you can live slowly and leisurely. The Island has a specialty of fishing and pepper and fish sauce. Some people avoid this peculiar smell, but once you eat it, you will like the deep flavor of the fish sauce made from fresh materials.

Prologue

Eating Vietnamese food, Information gathering to eat up seafood heaven. The esophagus party thinks about the menu from morning to night. Today is that shop, tomorrow is this shop. Wrap rice paper and add "fish sauce", and if you have a spicy sauce, it's already a fine Vietnamese food.

Cambodia and Phu Quoc Island Travel Members

learned that there is a leisurely resort on an Island near the border between Vietnam and Cambodia, and tried a rediscovery trip. This time is a tour of 8 people. Twin grandchildren Kiichi and Kisei (daughter's child 8 years old). And two younger sisters and couples participated in the Island tour. I have to have them enjoy it somehow.

The two are finally introduced and the performance begins. It was worth practicing enough to make beans in my hands. This time, an exchange performance with children. I was impressed by the appearance of playing Japanese drums with Cambodian children. The sound of the drum echoed greatly on the prefabricated roof.

At an orphanage in Cambodia

I wondered what kind of travel memories I would like to make. Grandchildren born in a time of satiety do not know about the poor children of the world. For the first time, I chose Cambodia and the socialist Vietnamese Islands.

Cambodian orphanage

Visit the orphanage the next day. The grandchildren are nervous about their first solo performance and overseas performance, and have a mysterious look. First of all, Cambodian children aged 5 to 12 performed a welcome folk dance. My grandsons, who were nervous, began to smile a little and were waiting for their turn.

My grandsons lean against me and sleep comfortably in the bus returning home because of the tension and heat. Seeing that satisfying sleeping face, I was full of utmost happiness. Cambodian children and grandchildren who stopped by on the way to the Islands of the earth will be a memorable page for the rest of their lives.

Visiting the world heritage sites of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom is good, but I feel the significance of the trip is more important to interact with the local people than to enjoy the trip alone.

Mr. and Mrs. Hayashi regret to say goodbye to their children

The 63rd Island tour of the Earth's Islands set out for a memorial Island that will be a lifelong treasure for me and my grandchildren. Cambodia flies less than an hour from Ho Chi Minh City.

Rediscovering the first trip with grandchildren

Son of daughter (Miki Iesato). Twins Kiichi Kisei (8 years old). I was reluctant to go on a trip until the end of last year. I decided to go on a trip myself this New Year and called me. To be honest, I was happy. With my grandson Journey are also twins.

By the end of the performance, the children were already friends. There are no borders in the appearance of Kotetsu (wife) and younger sisters playing with children with water balloons and origami. My sister and her husband are hugged by a child without parents and are confused, but with a big smile. 2 hours sweaty visit. It is the same feeling that they were sent off by the children and left the orphanage unfortunately.

I practiced hard at the "Gojo Wadaiko Club". I visited an orphanage to play "Ryujin Taiko" (a drum begging for rain). Happening that the drum is too big to carry for the airport shuttle bus I could barely get to the hotel by motorcycle taxi (pulling the rear car with a motorcycle).

The fish sauce factory we visited is a traditional method of sleeping in old-fashioned wooden barrels. The owner, Chan, speaks with confidence. It's a versatile seasoning that is indispensable for Vietnamese food. Sprinkle on simmered and stir-fried foods as they are. Shows a change in taste depending on how it is used.

The sensibilities of my grandchildren are sharp, and I can tell that they are getting used to traveling day by day. Phu Quoc dog often seen on the Island. It features a smart and mild-mannered face and a single, bristles on the back. His legs are long, his hands are webbed, and he has outstanding motor nerves. Even such a Phu Quoc dog cannot beat this heat. You can see the dog Siesta (nap) everywhere.

That nose-smelling fish sauce is one of the Island's specialties. A large number of small fish called "Carcom" are caught in the waters near Phu Quoc, a rich fishing ground, all year round. Salt it (70% fish, 30% salt) and let it sit for a year.

I never thought I would be captivated by Fish Sauce by the time I left the island. Once you eat the peculiar smell, it turns into a magical flavor. 70% of the Islanders feed on fishing.

A slow and quiet day is over, and a new morning begins. A normal life that is nothing for Phu Quoc people is a "paradise" for us. There are not many calm days in resorts around the world.

The, Chang, mountain stream that runs through the center of the Island is an affordable walking path that takes 30 minutes to the waterfall. If you put your feet on a stream in the cool shade of a tree, you can sweat the water that flows out. I am fascinated by the river play with my grandchildren and the dance of countless butterflies.

Early morning in the fishing village, fish landing peaks from 6am to 7am. A round small boat woven from bamboo that is unloaded from a wooden boat to a sandy beach. It looks like a Tarai-bune on Sado Island. There is no market. The scenery of weighed squids and fish carried by a balancing pole to the morning market will never get tired of watching.

The quiet day is over

Another specialty is pepper. White pepper and black pepper, heat over 30 degrees every day. The blessings of nature that can withstand this, and the strong stimulus that is tingling are the source of energy. Dozens of them are used as seasonings in every dish.

Vietnam Phu Quoc Island (63rd island)

The peak season for squid fishing on Phu Quoc Island is from October to April. I got on the fishing boat immediately, relying on the information that I could catch well. Small fishing until nightfall is also quite hit, and 8 people catch 45 fish. My grandson's first challenge is quite impressive. "Kisei" was the biggest catch among us. He got a prize of $ 5, but he was kind enough to split $ 2 into his twin, Kiichi.

When the sun went down and I thought I should go home, I heard a bouncy voice of Kotetsu saying "I was able to catch it", and a squid was caught while spitting ink on the line. Envy from everyone. Only one "precious squid" was pulled around for a commemorative photo of eight people.

Grandchildren who went fishing three times during their stay on the Island and were completely addicted to it. I can understand the feeling of innocently frolicking on the boat, but I wasn't fishing because I was wondering if I could fall into the sea. Surrounded by bright laughter, the ship heads for the beach of the hotel. It is also necessary to be very careful when crossing from the ship to the small boat.

I didn't think I could catch so much at a fishing tournament with my grandchildren. Tangled threads from feeding, Kiichi who hooks a needle on his finger. Blood bleeds from my fingers. "Are you okay?" When I wrap a bandage around his finger, the thread is already dripping. I am amazed at the curiosity of the child.

Only 5 minutes the waves were quiet and not so hot. Luxury fishing on a private boat. What I liked most was the low price of $ 10 per person. Safely berth. While looking up at the starry sky, I pulled the hands of my grandchildren and returned to the room leisurely. The day is slowly passing today. Vietnamese paradise

Squid fishing begins after sunset. The smell of oil is carried by the wind from the kitchen of the ship. The fried small fish that I just caught. What about live squid barbecue and squid porridge in the pamphlet? There is no squid hit on anyone's line.

Fishing Diary IN Phu Quoc

Preparations for porridge had begun at the kitchen that I accidentally looked into. The day before, the squid was chopped from what the fisherman caught in the net and put into a pot. The porridge and fried fish that were brought in. Everyone eats deliciously. I didn't eat well. I tasted it a little, but the ginger worked well with the salty porridge. How delicious would this be the squid I caught?

"What are you going to do?" "Hmm? Let's go." A car picked up immediately. About 40 minutes to the port. You can rest assured that the ship is okay. When I started preparing at the snorkeling point, the sun came out. Fortunately, there were no waves and my grandchildren also looked into the sea with underwater glasses. Everyone looks very happy.

Small Islands located on the south side of the Island. Ideal for snorkeling. My sisters say I definitely want to go. $ 38 per person at the hotel tour desk. Lunch, snorkel set and fishing, a little expensive, but it can't be helped, so I was planning to apply.

Only on this day, Chu, an interpreter, is absent. The iron rules of traveling ironmen are cheap and safe. Stroll around the town alone. Negotiate a charter boat on the An Thoi Islands at the dive shop right next to the hotel. A whopping $ 150 for 8 people. If you don't know a trip that surprises you for less than half the price of a hotel.

Payment is 900,000 VND! Even so, it's about 5,000 yen. Roasted sea urchin and raw sea urchin. "Sea urchin" with wasabi. I'm lucky that no one was hungry even if I ate this much. Satisfying An Thoi Islands. Full of stomach. The boat runs comfortably while being blown by the sea breeze.

One word of my grandson (Kiichi ,Kisei Iesato, 8 years old)

I was surprised that there was a child without a parent. It was a lot of fun to be able to play canoeing and snorkeling for the first time in the sea. I was surprised that the price of things is cheaper than in Japan.

The only one we caught in our group was Kotetsu, my wife. She seems to have learned fishing knack since Easter Island, and her way of holding line has changed.

Hotel restaurants at any resort have a taste that is universal. The restaurant's proud pickled sauce, fish sauce grown in the climate of Phu Quoc. "Fish sauce" and pepper. By the time I left the Island, it had become an unforgettable taste of tongue.

Epilogue

The rear view of my grandson who got off at Itami Airport and pushed the bag made me feel stronger and bigger. They found their parents who had come to meet them and jumped at them. Thank you Kiichi and Kisei Decades later, I feel like my grandchildren will visit Phu Quoc Island, an Island of memories with their own children.

However, Vietnamese people who select landed fish speak well. It's like a tongue twister meeting. The scenery of the fishing village in the early morning is very interesting. Eating out in seafood paradise is delicious, cheap and demands freshness.

"Paradise" that is a bit different from luxury resorts. Phu Quoc Island near the border between Vietnam and Cambodia. The bumpy road of red soil and the shoreline of singing sand continue. The morning in a simple fishing village is early. Blessed seafood, calm and laid-back mood.

A number of travel information that enriched the hearts of travelers. A round boat woven from bamboo, a triangular hat and a balance pole, a Vietnamese silhouette. The day quietly ends and the early morning begins. Slow and peaceful life, A leisurely mood that I was able to taste for the first time in a long time.
